First Holy Communion

Over the last few weeks it has been wonderful to see the children in 3W making their First Holy Communion.  They have received two sacraments this year: the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of the Eucharist.  These are two special milestones in their Faith journey.

Swimming lessons are well underway and I am extremely impressed with the standard of swimming. What a talented bunch 3W are!!!  I look forward to see some future Olympians!  Not only are the children very talented but their behaviour to and from the pool is commendable.

Half term is nearly upon us, where has the year gone?  It seems to be rushing by.  We have just completed some assessments in class and the children really tried their best to recall all their new learning from this year.  When we return after half term we have the Year3/4 production to look forward to as well as Art week and Sports Day.

We are coming to the end of our topic on the Romans.  This week we will look at the Celts and how their lives were changed by the arrival of the Romans.  After the holiday we will begin our new Geography topic on  Earthquakes and we will look at Pompeii, the Roman town that was destroyed when Vesuvius erupted.

We wish you a restful holiday to recharge your batteries, in preparation for our busy, last half term in 3W.

WB 8.5.17

Life is as busy as ever in year 3! We have started our swimming lessons in PE and the children have all been great ambassadors for the school when walking to and from the pool and have been very keen and enthusiastic in the water. We are now well and truly in the swing of our summer production and hopefully the children have been sharing some of the songs at home when they have been practising their words.

In English we have been reading Charlotte's Web and last week the children created some 'wax resist' spider web art and then wrote instructions describing how to recreate the process. They have laso produced lots of drama and 'hot seating' exploring the relationship between the characters and how they are feeling at different points in the story. Next week they will be writing persuasive letters to one of the characters in the story to try and save Wilbur!

In maths we have been spending a long time investigating fractions and looking at equivalent fractions, as well as looking at different methods for solving multiplication calculations. The children have also been enjoying our science topic looking at light and shadows - although a few more sunny days for outside experiments would be nice!

Finally, congratulations to all the children who made their first Holy communion over the past few weeks - you have all been wonderful and we have loved sharing this special day with you all. We look forward to when the final three children from 3W will be making their first communion at Our Lady of Lourdes, next Saturday.
