Settling in!

Take a look at the photos below, I am sure that if you look closely, you will see steam coming from the children's brains as they completed their first problem solving task!  It involved using logic and reasoning and with a bit of help, here and there, the children rose to the challenge and completed the task.  As always we had 3 levels of challenge so that all of the children could stretch themselves.

Our Egyptian topic is well underway and over the next few weeks we will look at the role of scribes and hieroglyphics, burial rituals and the flooding of the River Nile. The children are part way through choreographing a dance about Ancient Egypt and their ideas are fantastic.   Soon the children will begin work on their Egyptian burial masks during Art and don't forget our Egyptian Day on Tuesday 4th October.  Have you started to organise your costume? It doesn't have to be too complicated, you can come as an explorer or an Ancient Egyptian slave.

In our English lessons we are continuing to compose and rehearse sentences orally, building a rich vocabulary and a range of sentence structures.  Our new spelling scheme is underway and we are endeavouring to develop the children's vocabulary with our new word of each day.

In Maths we are starting to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes and solve number and practical problems using place value to add and subtract numbers and money.

We will soon be coming to the end of our first RE topic on HOMES and then we will begin our new topic on PROMISES where we look at the promises that we made at our baptism.

Our classroom is a busy place, the children are working so hard and we are so pleased with them.

Keep up the good work 3W.
