Last week was full of excitement as we headed off to the library on Wednesday. The children took part in some engaging activities designed to get them familiar with the library set up and had a wonderful time hearing about all the great things the library had to offer. We hope they will be able to make another trip with you soon so that they can show you some of the things that they found out.

On Thursday, the children had a wonderful afternoon making the sandwiches that they had designed during their D&T lessons. Thank you for providing the ingredients for these - they looked very tasty!

The children have also been working very hard researching rainforests in different countries and have produced some fantastic report writing as a result of this research.

Next week, the children will be learning about bones and our skeleton during science. They will be designing recipes for cheese scones in D&T and will be continuing to learn about the rainforest in our English and topic lessons. During maths we will be learning to recognise right angles and know that they measure 90 degrees.

Finally, thank you for reminding the children to bring their reading records into school every day and for noting down every time they read at home. We have noticed a real improvement this week in the number of children doing this. Remember, it doesn't just have to be their school reading book that they note down - we love to see the other things they are reading too!

Happy New Year 2016

Happy New  Year to everybody.  The children have returned back to school with a spring in their step and lots of news to share.  We are straight back into work and the children have produced some great work in the first week.  They are very enthusiastic about our new topic on Rainforests and have been sharing their knowledge with the class.  Please take time to show your child an atlas, globe or Google Maps and let them show and tell you the things we have been discussing.

Our new RE topic is Journeys and we have been looking at the Liturgical Year, the feasts and the seasons that the church follows.  The colours of the Liturgical Year are also of interest to us, for example why do we choose green for the Ordinary times of the year?

In English we are  looking at an information text about various countries in the world and we are making links with our Rainforest topic.  We also have started the year with a visit from an author called Luke Temple.  His presentation to KS2 was fantastic and really inspiring.  Hopefully some of the children will realise that they too have the potential to publish books! Perhaps in a few years a pupil in 3W may become an author!

In PE we are continuing with Gymnastics and weather permitting the outdoor topic will be Net and Wall games.  This week in gymnastics, the children did some excellent work on balancing and sequences.

Last but not least, we are going to be focussing on learning and applying "times tables".  As teachers we cannot emphasise enough how important it is to know your tables.  It helps in so many ways.
We would appreciate that you spend time encouraging this and sing them aloud in the car, the house, the supermarket.......or in any way that helps your child to learn them off by heart!
We will be introducing awards for children who learn their tables and can use them in their problem solving.   Work hard 3W!
